This 2-day South African wildlife tour departs from Cape Town and includes guided 4x4 safaris at two private reserves: Botlierskop Private Game Reserve and Buffelsdrift Game Lodge. On the first day, the tour begins with a 4x4 game drive at Botlierskop, located along the coastal Garden Route. This safari lasts about two and a half hours and takes place in specially adapted open-roof vehicles. After the game drive, the group travels approximately five hours to Oudtshoorn for an overnight stay. Accommodation options depend on the booking choice and include budget dormitory rooms at Uthando Hostel, comfort rooms at 88 Baron van Reede Guesthouse, or luxury lodgings at Buffelsdrift. On the second day, breakfast is provided at the accommodation, followed by a 1.5-hour 4x4 safari at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge in the Klein Karoo. An optional elephant observation activity is available at Buffelsdrift for an additional cost, payable on-site. After the morning safari, the tour returns to Cape Town via Route 62. Arrival in Cape Town is expected between 8 and 9 pm, depending on traffic and weather. The full itinerary covers around 900 kilometers and includes about 4 to 6 hours of driving in total. All ground transportation is included, with hotel pickup and drop-off within central Cape Town or Stellenbosch. Admission fees, breakfast, and a local English-speaking guide are also included. Meals other than breakfast are not included. A portion of the tour fee supports 2Cchange charity projects. The order of activities may occasionally be reversed. This tour offers a South African wildlife experience in the Western Cape region for travelers with limited time who prefer not to travel to northern parks.
Botlierskop Game Reserve
The tour starts at 6:45am from the meeting point in Cape Town, with hotel pickup offered within 5km of the city if arranged early. The trip covers about 450 km (around 6 hours) to a private game reserve in the Garden Route area of the Klein Karoo. Guests take a 4x4 open vehicle game drive to observe some of Africa’s Big 5 animals, including giraffe, white rhino, kudu, lion, elephant, zebra, and wildebeest. An experienced ranger leads the drive and provides details about the local wildlife.

Oudtshoorn Free Time
The next 50 miles lead into the arid Klein Karoo region, reaching Oudtshoorn, known as the ostrich capital of the world. Guests have an evening of free time at their accommodation. They may request their guide to arrange an optional "braai" barbecue dinner at the backpackers, featuring ostrich meat ("sosaties") and homemade bread ("pot brood"), subject to availability. Alternatively, the guide can assist with pre-booking other local dining options. Accommodation depends on the package selected and availability, including Uthando Backpackers (Dorm/Saver Own Room), 88 Baron van Reede Guesthouse (3* Comfort), or Buffelsdrift Lodge (4* Luxury). The itinerary order may vary due to seasonal or operational factors.

Buffelsdrift Bush Drive
Following breakfast, guests take an open-topped 4x4 bush drive in the Klein Karoo at Buffelsdrift Private Game Reserve. The guide and ranger assist in spotting wildlife such as Cape buffaloes, African elephants, zebras, wildebeests, and giraffes. This bush drive prioritizes close interaction with nature and focuses on explaining the ecosystem, including insects and plants, as the reserve has fewer large game species.
120 min
Elephant Observation Walk
Guests seeking a nature experience may join an optional Elephant Observation activity for an additional fee. This includes a nature walk to observe three rescued elephants roaming freely in their bushveld habitat. Elephant guides provide information about these animals during the experience.
Route 62 Drive to Cape Town
The day finishes with a journey along Route 62, recognized as the longest wine route worldwide. This roughly 450 km drive takes about 5 to 6 hours, depending on weather, traffic, lunch, and rest breaks. The route passes through high mountains, winding passes, and Karoo plains before reaching Cape Town between 7pm and about 9pm.
