by Marrakech Desert Tour
This four-day, three-night bus tour starts in Marrakech and covers Morocco’s Atlas Mountains, desert landscapes, and historic towns. Travelers begin by leaving Marrakech to cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass at 2,260 meters, stopping for photos along the way. The route includes a visit to the Ait Benhaddou kasbah, a fortified village made of adobe that has appeared in many films. The journey continues to Ouarzazate, where the town and its large film studios can be explored if time permits. Next is the Dades Gorge, known for rock formations and many kasbahs, followed by the Todra Gorge with its 300-meter-high cliffs. The tour includes two options for the final destination: returning to Marrakech or traveling onward to Fez. Both itineraries feature an overnight in the Dades Valley and a night at a desert camp in Merzouga after a camel trek lasting about an hour into the Erg Chebbi dunes. Those continuing to Fez spend an additional night in a Merzouga hotel with a visit to Rissani’s large market and kasbahs, then travel through the Ziz Valley, cedar forests, and Middle Atlas Mountains. Stops include Khamlia village to watch Gnawa music performances and a local oasis near Merzouga. Daily breakfasts and dinners are provided, and all transportation is by air-conditioned minibus. The tour includes hotel pickup and drop-off in Marrakech, local taxes, and an English-speaking professional driver. Entrance fees, drinks, lunches, and gratuities are not included. The trip ends in either Marrakech or Fez depending on the chosen route.
