Overview

The Addis Ababa Full Day Bus Tour with Hotel Pickup and Drop-off lasts approximately six to seven hours. The tour starts with a hotel pickup and proceeds to the National Museum of Ethiopia, where visitors spend one hour viewing archaeological exhibits, including the 3.5 million-year-old fossil of Lucy. The museum is closed on Mondays. The tour then passes Yekatit 12 Martyrs Square near Addis Ababa University and the Lion Zoo. An optional stop is made at Chiromeda Market, which offers locally handmade traditional clothing. Next, the tour visits Meyazia 27 Square Monument, also known as Dillachin or Victory Monument, featuring the Lion of Judah and panels commemorating Ethiopia’s liberation. The group then drives uphill to Mount Entoto, the former camp of Emperor Menelik II, where eucalyptus trees are abundant and panoramic views of Addis Ababa and the surrounding countryside can be seen. Entrance to Entoto Park is optional and requires a separate fee. The tour continues to the Ethnographic Museum located within Addis Ababa University grounds, where artifacts and daily objects from Ethiopia’s ethnic groups are displayed. Lunch is served at Addis Ababa Restaurant, a historic venue over 120 years old, offering various dining options including a vegan buffet on Wednesdays and Fridays. Traditional honey wine called Tej is also available. After lunch, the tour visits St. George Cathedral, one of the oldest and most colorful churches in the city. If St. George Cathedral is closed for renovation, the alternative visit is to B’atta Le Mariam Church, known for its circular architecture and stained glass windows. The tour then stops at Merkato, Africa’s largest open-air market, for about 40 minutes. The final stop is Tiglachin Memorial on Churchill Avenue, dedicated to Ethiopian and Cuban soldiers from the Ogaden War. The tour concludes with hotel drop-off. The price includes a Blue Badge guide, driver/guide, all entrance fees except for the Entoto viewpoint, round-trip shared transfer, and transport by air-conditioned minivan. Alcoholic drinks, food, and some admission fees are not included. Afternoon tours do not include a lunch stop, so lunch must be taken before pickup if the tour starts in the afternoon.
