Addo Elephant National Park is home to Africa’s Big 5 and one of the largest elephant populations on the continent. The park offers a wide range of wildlife including over 700 elephants, lions, buffalo, black rhinos, leopards, spotted hyenas, various antelope and zebra species, and the almost exclusive Addo flightless dung beetle. The original elephant reserve was established in 1931 when only eleven elephants remained. Today, the park also protects the Big 7 by including the southern right whale and great white shark off Algoa Bay. Visitors spend about 8 hours exploring the park with expert guides in a malaria-free environment.
