This building complex, part of the University of Alcala, was founded by Cardinal Cisneros starting in 1499. Its facade was constructed from 1537 to 1553 by architect Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón, known for cathedrals in Salamanca and Segovia, with contributions from carvers Francisco de Villalpando and Ruiz Diaz of the Corral. The site includes notable courtyards such as Santo Tomas de Villanueva and the Philosopher's Patio, as well as the Auditorium and University Chapel, the only original buildings from the founder's time.
