This one-hour guided canal cruise takes place on an open electrically powered boat through Amsterdam’s canals and city center. The boat is operated by a local skipper and guide who provide live commentary throughout the trip. Passengers can enjoy unlimited drinks from the onboard bar during the cruise. Blankets, ponchos, and umbrellas are available if needed. The tour begins near the architectural works of Pierre Cuypers, including the Rijksmuseum. It continues past the St. Nicholas Basilica, the Weeping Tower - the last remaining city defense tower - and the hands-on Nemo Science Museum. The boat then passes the National Maritime Museum, the former shipping company’s luxury hotel Scheepvaarthuis, and the Montelbaanstoren watchtower. Along the route, the boat passes notable pubs, the GASSAN diamond factory in the old Jewish neighborhood, the Jewish Museum, Rembrandt’s former home, and the Waterlooplein flea market. Further along, the cruise goes by the Blauwbrug bridge, the H’ART Museum, Koninklijk Theater Carré, the Magere Brug drawbridge, and canal houses on Herengracht including the Museum Willet-Holthuysen. The tour continues past lively squares filled with bars and restaurants, the Foam Photography Museum, the mayor’s official residence, and the old Heineken brewery. The guide points out the seven illuminated bridges visible from Reguliersgracht and the Felix Meritis cultural center. The boat then passes the Rijksmuseum again, the Museum of the Canals, Concertgebouw concert hall, Paradiso music venue, Leidseplein square, and the 9 Little Streets shopping area. The cruise also includes views of the Emperor’s Canal (Keizersgracht), the Houseboat Museum in a former cargo ship, the Homomonument memorial, Westertoren tower in the Jordaan neighborhood, and the Renaissance Westerkerk church. The Anne Frank House is passed as well, along with Brouwersgracht canal and the Nieuwe Haarlemmersluis lock. Life jackets are provided free for children aged 0 to 6.
