Posthoornkerk, designed by P.J.H. Cuypers in 1860, was built in two phases: from 1860 to 1863 the choir, transept, crossing tower, and nave were constructed, and from 1887 to 1889 the two-tower front was added. The neo-Gothic church features galleries above the side aisles and an interior modeled on the late Romanesque Munsterkerk in Roermond.

The Stopera complex houses Amsterdam's city hall and the Dutch National Opera and Ballet. Designed by Wilhelm Holzbauer and Cees Dam, its name comes from a protest slogan rather than a portmanteau.
