Overview

This semi-private day trip takes you from Rome to Ostia Antica by train. You start at a meeting point in Rome, where the guide provides your round-trip train ticket. The group includes up to 12 participants. The train ride heads southwest toward Ostia Antica, the ancient Roman port city near the coast. Once at the archaeological park, you walk for about two and a half hours through well-preserved ruins dating back to the 4th century BC. Your guide leads you along Decumanus Maximus, the main street, sharing details about life during Roman times. Key sites include the amphitheater built in 12 BC that held 3,500 spectators, the Forum of the Corporations, the Collegiate Temple, shops, apartments, taverns, and public baths. You also see Roman statues lining the paths and the Baths of Neptune, known for a mosaic depicting the sea god behind a four-horse chariot. After the walking tour, you return to Rome by train. The whole tour lasts about four hours and includes the train tickets, entrance fees, and an English-speaking guide. Hotel pickup and gratuities are not included.
