Overview

This small-group tour in Athens lasts about four hours and covers the ancient monuments of the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum. The tour starts with a two-hour visit to the Acropolis hill, where a licensed guide leads the group through key ancient sites. These include the Parthenon, the temple dedicated to the goddess Athena; the Theatre of Dionysus, one of the most important ancient theaters in the world; the Herod Atticus Odeon, a Greek-Roman theater still in use today; the Propylaea, the monumental gates of the Acropolis; and the Erechtheion, known for its Caryatid statues. Each landmark is visited with stops of about ten minutes. After exploring the Acropolis monuments, the tour continues with a one-hour visit to the Acropolis Museum. This archaeological museum displays artifacts found on the Acropolis rock and surrounding slopes, covering periods from the Greek Bronze Age through Roman and Byzantine times. The museum is built over ruins from Roman and early Byzantine Athens. Entrance fees are not included unless purchased in advance. If tickets are not pre-booked, participants can buy them in cash from the guide at the meeting point. People under 25 must carry physical passports or IDs to qualify for reduced ticket prices.
