Overview

This 2-hour walking workshop takes place at Handmade Barcelona, a local artisan workshop in the city. The session begins in the entrance hall with drinks served while the guide explains the origins of espadrilles, a traditional Catalan shoe that has become a fashion item. After about 15 minutes, participants move on to learn about the different traditional materials used to make espadrilles. They then choose the size of the base, stitching style, and color and type of laces. This selection process lasts around 20 minutes. Next, participants sit at workshop tables for about an hour to handcraft their own pair of espadrilles using the materials chosen. During this time, instruction covers stitching techniques and various ways to lace the shoes. The final part of the workshop lasts approximately 25 minutes and includes cava and snacks, dancing, and taking photos with the new espadrilles. Each participant leaves with the custom-made pair they created, providing a wearable memory of Barcelona. The workshop has been experienced by over 10,000 guests and includes all materials, tools, and guidance needed to make the espadrilles. Optional upgrades such as premium bases and extra food and drink are available for an additional cost. Transportation is not included.
