This regular three-hour walking tour explores the architecture of Barcelona with a focus on the works of Antoni Gaudí. The tour is led by professional architects, many of whom also teach architecture or work as critics. Participants walk entirely on foot through the city while receiving detailed commentary on Gaudí's contributions and the broader architectural landscape of Barcelona from a critical and contemporary perspective. A printed microguide about Barcelona is included with the tour.
Modernism Route Overview
The route traces Antoni Gaudí's progression from social concerns to a spiritual focus, culminating in his status as 'the last great cathedral builder.' Discussions cover the end of modernism, eclecticism, the Crypt of Colony Güell, the Sagrada Família, utopian socialism, positivist materialism, the Spanish Civil War, anarchism, the intellectual bourgeoisie, beatification, and deliquescent surfaces. Participants will observe Casa Calvet, Casa Batlló, and Casa Milà by Gaudí, as well as Casa Amatller designed by Puig i Cadafalch, the Antoni Tàpies Foundation, Casa Lleó Morera by Domènech i Montaner, and several hidden courtyards within the Eixample district. There is no entry inside any of these buildings.
