Overview

At the end of the 19th century, Barcelona expanded beyond its medieval walls during a cultural revival that produced remarkable painters and architects, including Antoni Gaudí. This walking tour covers about two and a half hours and focuses on Gaudí’s life and works as well as those of his contemporaries within the modernist L'Eixample district. The tour starts at Plaza de Catalunya, near the Apple store, where the group meets before exploring the neighborhood known as Barcelona's outdoor museum of modernist architecture. The guide explains the history and details of several key landmarks, beginning with an exterior view of Casa Batlló, including stories about its design and origins. Next, the group moves on to La Pedrera (Casa Milà), where the guide discusses the unique construction challenges, Gaudí’s demands during building, and the inspirations behind its unusual design. The final stop is the Sagrada Familia, where the guide outlines the basilica’s history from its start over a century ago, through the years of dictatorship, up to the present day. The guide also highlights the symbolic elements embedded in the façades of this major work. The tour includes an expert local guide and photo settings for impactful Instagram pictures. It requires about 2.5 hours and takes place entirely on foot. A metro ticket is needed to travel from La Pedrera to the Sagrada Familia. Admission fees, gratuities, food, beverages, and hotel transfers are not included. There is a 3€ reservation fee to secure your spot, which does not go to the guide.
