Overview

Liyuan Theatre is the first teahouse-style theatre in Beijing, featuring traditional Chinese tables for eight, lidded teacups, Beijing snacks, and Peking Opera performed by the Beijing Peking Opera Theatre. Every evening, as the lights come on, Chinese and foreign opera fans and tourists gather here to enjoy Beijing snacks, savor lidded tea, listen to authentic Peking Opera, and experience the comfortable "Old Beijing" lifestyle. Liyuan Theatre has hosted 4.6 million Chinese and foreign guests and staged over 7,100 performances. Numerous heads of state and government officials, including South Korean President Kim Dae-jung, former Japanese Prime Minister Toshiki Kaifu, Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori, Estonian President Lennart Meri, and Belgian Senate President Frank Swaelen, have watched the world-famous Chinese Peking Opera here.
