The Temple of Heaven Park was where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties annually offered sacrifices to heaven and prayed for good harvests. The Temple of Heaven is renowned worldwide for its rigorous architectural layout, unique structural design, and magnificent architectural decorations. Covering a total area of approximately 2.7 million square meters, it is divided into the Inner Altar and the Outer Altar. The main buildings are in the Inner Altar, with the Circular Mound Altar and the Imperial Vault of Heaven to the south, and the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests and the Imperial Heavenly Vault to the north. These two groups of buildings are connected by a north-south thoroughfare, the Danbi Bridge. The Outer Altar, with its lush ancient cypresses, surrounds the Inner Altar, making the main architectural complex appear even more solemn and grand. Within the altar, there are also the Echo Wall, Triple-Sound Stone, and Dialogue Stone, ingeniously built using acoustic principles, fully demonstrating the advanced level of ancient Chinese architectural craftsmanship. The Temple of Heaven Park is the largest preserved sacrificial altar complex in China.
