Overview

The tour begins on foot at the Peace Wall in West Belfast, where participants walk both sides of the wall between Falls and Shankill Roads. Two guides, one a Republican ex-political prisoner and the other a Loyalist ex-political prisoner, lead the tour and share their personal experiences from their time in Northern Ireland prisons. The guides explain the historical and social context behind the murals and landmarks along the route. The first part of the tour covers the nationalist area, including the International Wall, the Bobby Sands Mural, D Company Memorial Garden, and Bombay Street. This segment lasts about one and a half hours and focuses on the Republican perspective. The second part explores the Loyalist area on Shankill Road with visits to murals and sites such as the Shankill Memorial Garden, Bayardo Bombing, UVF Memorial, Frizzells Fish Shop Bombing, and the Somme Memorial. This section also lasts about one and a half hours and presents the Loyalist viewpoint. The entire walking tour lasts about three hours and offers insight into the conflicting stories of 'The Troubles' through direct accounts and local history. A portion of the tour's proceeds supports community projects for children.
