The guide is qualified and insured, providing information about the route, the mountain’s history, and its natural features. The walk lasts between 5 and 9 hours depending on conditions and pace. Participants must bring their own appropriate gear for changing weather, including waterproof boots with ankle support, waterproof jacket and trousers, warm layers, and a head torch. A small personal first aid kit, a 1-liter flask or drinks bottle, and a rucksack with a waterproof liner are also required. An orange emergency survival bag is recommended. The guide will accompany the group throughout the climb, including the 15-minute stop at the summit of Ben Nevis, where the highest point is reached via the Mountain path. Lunch, snacks, and bottled water are not provided and should be brought by participants.
