Fort of São João do Arade
The Fort of São João do Arade, also known as the Castle of Arade, is a medieval fortress. Initially, a watch tower was built during King John II of Portugal's reign. Around 1520, after Ferragudo was established, the castle was likely surrounded by a defensive wall constructed over older walls. The fort dates back to the Philippine Dynasty and was intended to protect the peninsula's coast from pirate and privateer attacks.
Ponta do Altar Lighthouse
This lighthouse has a unique design featuring a small square tower connected to a one-story caretaker's house. The house, painted white with exposed stones and a red tiled roof, resembles a small schoolhouse and supports a red lantern on its terrace. It stands on a promontory used since prehistoric times for pagan rituals, located on the eastern side of Portimão's port entrance. Proposed on June 21, 1884, it began operation on January 1, 1893. The tower is 10 meters tall and 2.7 meters wide, originally using a white oil-fueled light combined with two smaller lights at the harbor entrance.
Small Islet Bird Area
This islet covers just 0.16 hectares and is designated as an Important Bird Area (IBA) because it serves as a nesting site for herons. It is particularly notable in spring when colonies of Cattle Egrets and Little Egrets nest there, covering the islet's top with white nests.
Torre da Lapa Watchtower
Torre da Lapa was likely constructed in the 16th century as part of a coastal watchtower system for the Algarve. For centuries, local men took turns watching the coast for corsair ships, mainly from North Africa. In case of threat, they used a bell, smoke signals, or lit fires at night to warn people to secure their belongings and safety.

This cave is among the deepest in the area. Access is only possible when weather conditions allow. Entering the cave provides a notable experience.
