This four-and-a-half-hour tour begins at the Glacier Lagoon near Hofn, Iceland. Participants meet at the designated location before traveling to the Breidamerkurjokull glacier for an ice exploration. The guide provides all necessary safety equipment, including crampons, helmets, and harnesses, and conducts a safety briefing. The group then explores the glacier on foot, walking across the ice and examining its formations while the guide explains the glacial features. Participants must wear warm, breathable, waterproof clothing and sturdy hiking boots with ankle support. Rain pants, rain jackets, and hiking boots are available for rent at the meeting point if needed. Lunch is not included in the tour price. Participants must be able to fit the safety gear and meet minimum shoe size requirements. The harness adjusts up to 126 cm. For groups of one or more than five participants, direct contact with the tour operator is required.
Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier Hike
The tour includes about 2 hours of hiking on Breiðamerkurjökull, a glacier outlet of Vatnajökull, covering 4-6 km. The guide explains glacier formation and changes, pointing out features like mountains, ashy ice, and sometimes blue ice. Depending on weather and group preference, the route may include larger glacier areas or moulins and crevasses. The hike is of medium difficulty, requiring walking on varied terrain and in different weather conditions, with no previous glacier experience needed. Participants receive crampons, helmets, and safety harnesses, and guides ensure proper preparation before starting. It is advised to wear warm, breathable, waterproof clothing and sturdy boots that support the ankles. The tour starts with meeting and gearing up, followed by a 40-minute super-jeep drive, then about 2 hours on the glacier, and ends with walking back to the jeep and returning to the Glacier Lagoon. Tours depart at 08:30, 12:00, or 13:45.
