Overview

Byron Bay is the most easterly point of Australia, known for its marine wildlife and coastal views. This sea kayak tour departs from Clarke's Beach and lasts about two and a half hours. Participants paddle across the bay toward Cape Byron, visiting Wategos Beach near the Cape Byron Lighthouse. Here, a local group of Pacific Bottlenose Dolphins often appears, and the tour usually offers chances to see dolphins, humpback whales (from May to October), and turtles in their natural setting. The tour uses stable double sit-on-top tandem kayaks suitable for most fitness levels. A kayaking lesson is provided on the beach before setting out. Wetsuits are available during cooler months. The guides are trained surf lifesavers with extensive local experience, led by long-term local surfer and surf lifesaver Kurt Tutt. Safety equipment is included. Participants who do not see dolphins, turtles, or whales can paddle again for free. Photos taken during the tour are available for free digital download via the company's Facebook page. The tour welcomes beginners and non-swimmers but is not recommended for those with a fear of water. No pick-up or drop-off service is provided, and alcoholic drinks are not included. Parking is available nearby with some free options on Massinger Street. The tour runs rain or shine but may be canceled for dangerous ocean conditions, with a full refund offered in such cases.
