Overview

This full-day 4x4 tour covers about 10 hours and explores the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park, starting from Moab. Participants meet at a central location in Moab before boarding a 4-wheel drive vehicle for a roughly 2-hour scenic drive to Chesler Park, located in the park's Needles District. The guide drives over rugged off-road trails including Elephant Hill, known for its difficulty, as well as Devil's Kitchen, Devil's Lane, and SOB Hill, all challenging sections that demonstrate the vehicle and guide’s capabilities. At midday, the group stops for a buffet-style picnic lunch with views over the park. After lunch, there is an optional 3-mile (4.8-km) hike on the Joint Trail, which passes through large boulders and side canyons to reach Chesler Park’s open meadows. The trail is well-maintained but includes some steep uphill sections, making it suitable for hikers in good physical condition. Those who opt out of the hike can rest near the vehicle and enjoy the surroundings. The tour also passes rock art sites along Utah Scenic Byway 279, which features accessible ancient drawings along easy paths. After the day’s exploration, the guide returns the group to Moab, completing the 4x4 adventure through remote and rugged parts of Canyonlands National Park. Included are a professional guide, 4x4 transport, ice water, and a buffet lunch. Park entrance fees are not included unless the participant has a valid annual National Parks Pass.
