Located 4 kilometers east of Göreme, Uçhisar features a large rock fortress once used for defense. The fortress contains rooms connected by stairs, tunnels, and passages, some sealed by millstone doors. Many rooms on the north side are still used as pigeon houses to collect droppings for fertilizer. Due to erosion, some rooms are inaccessible. The fortress offers panoramic views of Cappadocia and Mount Erciyes.
