Overview

This 8 to 9-hour Cappadocia Mix Tour combines the Green Tour and the Red Tour, covering important historical and natural sites around Goreme in central and northern Cappadocia. The tour starts with a 15-minute visit to Çavuşin Village to see old Greek houses abandoned after the 1924 population exchange. Next, the group spends about one hour and 45 minutes in Avanos, beginning with lunch that includes a variety of Turkish dishes such as mezes, salads, meat and vegetarian options, and desserts. After lunch, the tour continues to a family-run pottery workshop located in an underground cave. This workshop uses clay from the Kızılırmak River, a tradition dating back before 1700 BC. Visitors watch a master potter demonstrate the craft, see painters and glazers apply patterns, and have the option to try making their own pot on the wheel. The tour then proceeds to Uçhisar Castle, the highest rock formation in the region, where the guide explains the geological formation of the landscape during a 45-minute visit. Following this, there is a one-hour stop at the Zelve Open Air Museum to learn about early Christian monastic life and explore cave churches and monasteries with frescoes from the 10th and 11th centuries. At Devrent Valley, the group spends about 20 minutes observing natural rock formations, including the camel-shaped rock, with time to identify other shapes. The next stop is Kaymaklı Underground City, the largest and deepest underground settlement dating to the 7th-8th centuries. Visitors explore five levels connected by tunnels and stairways, seeing the winery, church, kitchens, food storage areas, and animal stalls while the guide explains daily life in the city during a one-hour visit. Afterward, the tour stops at a viewpoint in Uçhisar overlooking Pigeon Valley for about 30 minutes to see ancient pigeon houses carved in stone. There is also an optional visit to a nearby onyx stone factory. The final stop is Pasabag Vadisi (Monks Valley), where participants spend about one hour walking among clusters of mushroom-shaped "fairy chimneys" and see the Chapel of Saint Simeon. The tour includes air-conditioned transport, a professional guide, entrance fees, and lunch. Drinks and special shopping are not included. This tour is not recommended for people with claustrophobia due to the underground city visit.
