Guests begin by being picked up from their hotel in Goreme or other towns in Cappadocia and transported in a luxury air-conditioned vehicle to an ancient caravanserai. These caravanserais were built during the medieval Seljuk period as resting places and stables for merchants and their camels traveling across Turkey. Upon arrival, visitors have time to explore parts of the caravanserai before the main event. The Whirling Dervishes ceremony lasts about one hour inside the caravanserai. An English-speaking guide explains the ritual, which symbolizes the spiritual journey of man’s ascent through love and the search for truth. After the ceremony, guests are offered Serbet, a traditional soft religious drink.
