The Caserta Royal Palace was commissioned in 1750 by Bourbon King Charles of Naples and constructed over about 100 years before Italy’s unification. The palace includes 1,200 rooms decorated with frescoes, gold accents, chandeliers, and baroque furniture. Visitors enter through the Grand Staircase and can explore the Royal Apartments, chapel, and a theater modeled after Naples’ Teatro San Carlo. The tour lasts about 3 hours and includes a guided visit led by a local expert. After touring the palace, guests take an included shuttle bus to the English Gardens, part of the extensive grounds stretching to the horizon. The gardens contain fountains, statues, and waterfalls inspired by classical mythology, as well as exotic plants and flowers in the romantic English Gardens section.
