Overview

The Coromandel Peninsula offers a coastal landscape known for its beaches and natural hot springs. This small-group day tour runs for about 12 hours and follows two different itineraries based on tide times. The Cathedral Cove & Hot Water Beach Tour operates only when tides allow access to Hot Water Beach, where participants can dig their own hot water spa pools; towels and swimwear are required for this stop. On alternate days, the Coastal Adventure Tour covers the same scenic route and highlights, including Cathedral Cove, but does not include Hot Water Beach. Both tours begin in Auckland, with a guided drive out of the city that includes commentary on key urban landmarks. After leaving Auckland, the route passes through the Waikato countryside, known for its extensive farms, rivers, and mountains, providing several photo stops. Lunch is scheduled in Hahei, where participants can buy food at their own expense. The tour includes a visit to Cathedral Cove, accessible by a 30 to 45-minute walk over uneven terrain and stairs. Access to Cathedral Cove depends on weather and safety conditions; if the path is unsafe, alternative stops will be arranged. After visiting Cathedral Cove, the tour returns to Auckland with guided commentary and some additional secret stops along the way. Included in the tour are spades for Hot Water Beach if that option is selected, a fully guided small-group experience, and snacks and water throughout the day.
