Overview

Located 11 miles northeast of Boerne at 325 Kreutzberg Rd. in Texas Hill Country, Cave Without a Name is a natural cavern known for its extensive formations. It lies 39 miles from downtown San Antonio and has been open to the public since 1939. The cave is recognized as a National Natural Landmark. The guided tour lasts about one to two hours and begins with a descent of 126 steps to reach the cave floor, 80 feet below ground where the temperature remains steady at 66 degrees Fahrenheit. Visitors walk through six main chambers featuring stalactites, stalagmites, soda straws, cave drapery, flowstones, and rimstone dams formed over thousands of years. The pathways are well-lit and easy to navigate, and tours are conducted in small groups. Outside the cave, guests can visit the gift shop, try the gemstone and fossil sluice, watch geode slicing, or hike the shaded Canyon Rim Trail. Children aged five and under enter free with a paid adult ticket. Transportation to and from the cave is not provided, and Uber or Lyft return rides can be difficult to arrange, so scheduling return transport in advance is recommended.
