Overview

This semi-private safari tour from Chania lasts about seven to eight hours and includes visits to several locations related to Crete’s wine and olive oil production. Up to six guests travel in a luxury seven-seat 4WD vehicle with air conditioning, driven by a local guide who provides information on the region’s culture and history. The tour begins with a visit to the Cave of St. John the Hermit, where guests spend around thirty minutes exploring the cave and nearby natural lookout. Next, the group stops at the Olive Tree Museum of Vouves to see an olive tree over three thousand years old that still produces olives, enjoy a coffee break, and visit a traditional Cretan farm. Afterward, the tour continues to Anoskeli Winery and Olive Mill for approximately one hundred minutes. There, guests taste two organic extra virgin olive oils and five local wines, accompanied by Cretan snacks, with sommeliers and producers explaining the products. The safari aspect of the tour involves driving on rough roads that are not accessible to larger vehicles, allowing guests to explore parts of the Chania Prefecture in the comfortable 4WD vehicle. Lunch is served at a restaurant overlooking either Topolia or Samaria Gorge, depending on availability. The meal includes Cretan dishes, a first round of wine or beer, dessert, and a choice of coffee, tea, or fresh orange juice. Bottled water is provided throughout the day. Pickup is included within three miles east and fifteen miles west of Chania. Gratuities are not included. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and the minimum drinking age is eighteen. Vegetarian options are available upon request at booking. The tour operates in all weather conditions, and a smart casual dress code is recommended.
