Overview

Head north from Chiang Mai for a full day exploring Chiang Rai's three legendary temples. Start with a mountain coffee break at Phu Fah Sai Cafe, then arrive at Wat Rong Khun, the White Temple — a contemporary mirrored-glass masterpiece still being expanded by its living artist. Next is Wat Rong Suea Ten, the Blue Temple, where deep indigo walls surround a striking white Buddha, followed by Wat Huay Pla Kang, the Red Temple, home to a nine-story Guanyin statue visible across the valley. Round out the day at Lalitta Cafe before heading back. Along the way, you can opt to visit a Karen Long Neck hill tribe village — a tradition that's sparked as much debate as fascination.
