Overview

This two-hour walking tour covers about two miles through downtown Chicago’s Loop area. It begins at the Palmer House Hilton Historic Lobby, where participants spend 15 minutes viewing the large mosaic mural by Marc Chagall. The tour is led by Colin, who shares stories combining Chicago’s history with elements of mystery, comedy, and tragedy. The group visits the Marquette Building for 10 minutes to see one of the city’s oldest skyscrapers. Next, the tour stops for 10 minutes at Calder’s Flamingo, a modern art sculpture by Alexander Calder set among architecture by Mies van der Rohe. The Rookery Building is visited for 15 minutes to explore Chicago’s oldest skyscraper and its architectural features. Participants then view the 50-foot-tall untitled sculpture by Picasso for 10 minutes. At the Chicago Theatre, the group spends 15 minutes learning about the building’s design and the entertainers who performed there. The tour continues with a 10-minute stop at Macy’s on State Street, formerly the Marshall Fields Department Store, once the largest in the world.
