Overview

This six-hour small-group tour explores the natural and agricultural landscapes of the Columbia River Gorge east of Portland. The tour begins with a drive along the Historic Columbia River Highway, where guests can view the river and stop for short walks to see 2 to 3 waterfalls such as Latourell Falls, Starvation Creek, Wahkeena Falls, or Horsetail Falls. A guide with naturalist expertise explains the mossy forest environment and how the regional climate changes from wet forests to drier areas suitable for grape growing. After visiting several waterfalls, the tour continues to the fertile Hood River basin, where participants taste a selection of Columbia Gorge wines at Stave & Stone Winery. All wine tasting fees are included. The tour ends with a visit to Multnomah Falls, Oregon's tallest waterfall at 620 feet, fed by underground springs from Larch Mountain. Seasonal snacks and refreshments are provided throughout the tour. Transportation is by luxury Ford Transit vans, and the group size is limited to 10 people. Hotel or Portland Visitor Center pickup and drop-off are included. Lunch is not provided.
