Overview

There is a Freetown inside Copenhagen called Christiania, also considered an international community, a commune, and even a micronation. It started in 1971 as squatters occupied a former military base. Now it is a self-proclaimed autonomous community, and our walk will take you into the most intriguing and unique neighborhoods of Copenhagen. Discover the rich history and culture of Christiania, known for its alternative way of life and open-mindedness. Learn about its fascinating past, current way of life, and the way they want to shape the future. Pass “Pusher Street”, where you’ll get to know the famous “Green Light District” and discover the story of the cannabis trade in the community. Explore the art on the walls, the stalls selling goods, and the friendly, laid-back atmosphere of the street. Find the heart of Christiania and become aware of its unique architecture and buildings. See Christiania’s lake, where locals often swim and relax in the sun, and hear the rhythm of Loppen, with its art exhibits and live music. It's an immersive and enlightening experience of one of Copenhagen's most unique neighborhoods, which you’ll remember for years to come.
