by Da Nang Scooter Adventures
This 2.5-hour tour takes place on Son Tra Peninsula near Da Nang, Vietnam, the natural habitat of the endangered Red Shanked Douc Langurs. The meeting time is usually 2:30 PM or 3 PM but may vary depending on weather and the animals' active periods; participants will be informed if the time changes. A local guide leads the group along established trails covering about 230 meters to locations where the langurs can be watched in their natural environment. The guide uses knowledge of the animals’ behavior and the area to increase the chance of observing these rare monkeys. Bottled water and binoculars are provided, though guests may bring their own equipment. The walk is light and suitable for most participants but is not recommended for children under 4 years old or guests weighing more than 100 kilograms. There is no space for luggage on the tour. Gratuities are not included.
Red-Shanked Douc Langur Trek
The start time changes with the season to align with the monkeys' active periods. This easy, three-hour journey follows winding mountain roads and scenic areas to reach hidden locations known only to the Red-Shanked Douc Langurs. Visitors may see young monkeys during the breeding season from March to July, observe adults or the alpha male, and learn to distinguish males from females and estimate their ages. Participants also assist with real-time research by collecting data on the monkeys encountered. Along the way, various forest animals such as birds, colorful butterflies, plants, and occasionally mongoose can be seen. Conversations with local wildlife photographers provide insights and photo examples to enhance understanding of the monkeys. The route also includes views of secluded spots on Monkey Mountain and a secret beach, adding variety to the experience.
