Overview

This full-day bus tour from Bangkok covers three notable sites outside the city. It starts with a visit to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, where guests board a traditional long-tail boat for a ride along the canals. The market, built to improve river connections in 1866, offers many photo opportunities and scenes of life on the water, though it mainly serves tourists today. The boat trip and market visit last about three hours including travel time. Next, the tour continues to Mae Klong Railway Market, also known as Talad Rom Hoop or Train Umbrella Market. This market sits directly on active railway tracks where vendors quickly move their stalls when the Bangkok-Maeklong train passes. Visitors spend time walking through the market and watching the train arrive or depart. The stop lasts around three and a half hours including travel from Damnoen Saduak and back to Bangkok. The final stop is Wat Bang Kung, famous for its small chapel encased within banyan tree roots. The temple grounds were once a naval fort and a battle site in the 18th century. Visitors can enter the chapel to pay respect to the Buddha image. This visit takes about 45 minutes. The tour includes an English-speaking guide, bottled water, air-conditioned transportation, and the long-tail boat ride at Damnoen Saduak. Personal expenses, meals, and optional gratuities are not included. The total duration is about 7 to 8 hours with time spent on travel between locations and back to Bangkok.

Itinerary

1

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

This stop includes a visit to Thailand’s most well-known floating market. Upon arrival, participants board a traditional long-tail boat for a ride through the canals, showing life along the waterways. The canal system was built in 1866 by King Rama IV to connect the Mae Klong and Tha Chin rivers and improve water transport between Ratchaburi and Samut Sakhon provinces. Although the market today mainly serves tourists, its lively atmosphere and colorful boats remain notable. The total time includes the approximately 1,5-hour drive each way from Bangkok, depending on traffic.

2

Mae Klong Railway Market (Hoop Rom Market)

This market, locally called Talat Rom Hoop, has existed since 1905 and developed from the local fishing community’s need to sell goods. A railway was built to deliver these goods to other provinces, but the market remained on the tracks. Visitors walk through the market and watch a train arrive or depart, seeing vendors quickly retract awnings and goods to allow the train to pass. The total time here includes travel from Damnoen Saduak and back to Bangkok, about 1,5 hours depending on traffic.

3

Wat Bang Kung

Wat Bang Kung is notable for its small chapel fully enclosed by the roots of a banyan tree, which acts as pillars supporting the structure. Visitors can enter the chapel to pay respect to the Buddha image inside. The temple grounds served as a naval fort during an 18th-century battle between Siam and Burma and now function as a memorial to warrior bravery. The stop lasts approximately 45 minutes.
