Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market in Ratchaburi has operated for over 100 years and is among Thailand’s most visited floating markets. Vendors sell goods from boats along Klong Damnoen Saduak, the longest and straightest canal in Thailand. The canal, 32 kilometers long with more than 200 branches, was built on royal initiative by King Rama IV to connect the Mae Klong River with Chinese waterways. It took over 2 years to dig and was completed during King Rama V’s reign. The market’s popularity peaked between 1971 and 1973 when many farmers sold produce directly from their boats, a practice that continues today.
