Overview

This small group day tour focuses on the archaeological and historical significance of Delphi, once considered the center of the ancient world. The tour starts with an early morning hotel pickup in Athens by air-conditioned minivan. The group, limited to 15 participants, travels through central Greece, passing through the plains of Boeotia and the towns of Thebes and Levadia, with a rest stop along the way. Upon arrival at ancient Delphi, known as the "navel of the world," the group meets a professional guide who leads a two-hour tour of the site. Visitors pass Castalia Spring and explore key monuments including the Argive Kings monument, the treasury of the Athenians, the Athenian Stoa, the Polygonal Wall, the monument of Platea, and the Temple of Apollo, famous for its oracle. Next, the tour continues with a one-hour visit to the Delphi Archaeological Museum, where visitors see exhibits such as the frieze from the Treasury of the Sifnians, the Naxian Sphinx, the Statue of Antinoos, and the bronze Charioteer statue. There is a short stop at the Tholos of Delphi, part of the Sanctuary of Athena Pronaia and located less than a mile east of the main site. This circular temple is included in the Delphi UNESCO World Heritage designation. After the guided tours, the group transfers to the modern village of Delphi for a lunch break (not included) and some free time to walk around. On the return trip to Athens, there is a brief stop in the traditional mountain village of Arachova, situated on the southern slopes of Mount Parnassus. The tour ends with a drop-off at the original hotel pickup location in Athens. The total duration of the tour is about nine hours and includes transportation, guide services, and hotel pickup and drop-off.
