Overview

This two-hour walking tour begins near Pile Gate in Dubrovnik, where the guide meets the group to start the visit. The tour proceeds into the Old Town before heading to the entrance of the ancient city walls. Participants purchase tickets separately to access the walls, as the entrance fee is not included in the tour price. The guide leads a walk around the 1.2-mile (2-kilometer) city walls, explaining their construction, restorations, and defensive purpose since the 14th century. Along the route, the guide highlights key fortifications such as Fort Revelin and Minceta Tower, both located on the walls, and points out Fort Lovrijenac, which lies outside the main walls but is part of the defensive system. The guide also discusses the military history of Dubrovnik, including the city’s wars, political struggles, and diplomatic efforts that helped maintain its independence as a republic. Views from the walls include the Adriatic Sea, the port, and the UNESCO-listed Old Town. The tour involves many stairs and is not suitable for those with mobility issues. It is conducted in English and uses audio headsets for groups of four or more. The tour ends near the old town port. No restroom stops are provided during the walk.
