Chinese Fishing Nets

The Chinese fishing nets, also called Cheena vala, are fixed land installations used for fishing, with horizontal nets about 20 meters across. Each structure stands around 10 meters high and uses large stones as counterweights. Operated by up to six fishermen, these shore operated lift nets were introduced by Chinese explorers in the 14th century and are mostly found around Kochi and Kollam in India.
