Overview

This full-day hiking tour from Belfast visits key Game of Thrones outdoor filming locations used mostly in seasons 1 and 2. The trek lasts about 9 and a half hours and covers several stops south of Belfast, including Old Castle Ward, which served as the Winterfell castle and courtyard in season 1. You will walk around Castle Ward for about 90 minutes on a 3-kilometer route that includes sites like Walder Frey's Twins and Robb Stark's camp in the Riverlands. The tour also stops at Inch Abbey, where Robb Stark was declared King in the North. Here, you can take photos while dressed in Stark cloaks and holding swords and banners, all included in the price. Another 90-minute walk takes place in Tollymore Forest Park, where scenes of the Night's Watch encountering White Walkers and finding a dead direwolf were filmed. Around midday, the group visits the Barn pub in Saul, Downpatrick, between 12:00 and 13:00. You can bring your own lunch or pre-order a hot meal at the pub, but lunch is not included in the ticket price. Weather permitting, there is a one-hour hike to the Hen Mountain filming location near Hilltown, where a key scene from 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' was shot. This walk is moderately steep and exposed to the elements, so it is only included if conditions allow. The tour departs from Leonardo Hotel in Belfast at 08:00 and returns to Jurys Inn hotel around 18:00. The guide worked as an extra on all eight seasons and shows VFX breakdowns on tablets to explain how scenes were created. Entrance fees, costumes, swords, and live commentary on board are included.
