Overview

This full-day tour lasts about six hours, beginning with a meeting at Marienplatz in Munich city center in front of Ludwig Beck store. A professional guide holding a white and blue umbrella will provide a briefing before the group takes a train and then a bus to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site. The bus follows the route prisoners were forced to march, starting from the original train station where most prisoners arrived. At the memorial site, the guide leads a four-hour tour covering the camp’s history, including why it opened, the first prisoners, camp development, and SS training. Visitors see key locations such as the Jourhaus entrance, the roll call square Appellplatz, and the Memorial Site Museum located in the former maintenance building. The guide explains aspects of prisoner life, the barracks, daily routines, the perimeter fence, guard towers, and memorials including the International Memorial, Nandor Glid Sculpture, religious memorials, Barrack X, two crematoriums, mass graves, and the gas chamber. After the tour, the group returns by bus and train to Marienplatz where the tour ends. Food and drinks are not included and should be brought by participants as options are limited at Dachau. Hotel pickup is not provided, and children 14 years or younger cannot join the tour. The operator cannot hold luggage during the tour.
