Overview

The highlight of this full-day tour is the guided visit to Machu Picchu, including circuit two, which covers most of the Inca temples and the classic photo spots such as the Guardian's House. The tour starts early with hotel pickup in Cusco around 4:30 a.m. and a transfer by bus to the Ollantaytambo train station. From there, the Expedition tourist train takes visitors through the Vilcanota valley to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, guests take a tourist bus that climbs to the entrance of Machu Picchu. A professional English- or Spanish-speaking guide leads a two-and-a-half-hour tour of the archaeological site, allowing time to see the main buildings and temples and take photos. After the guided tour, there is free time to relax and explore. Returning to Aguas Calientes, visitors can optionally choose to have a buffet lunch at the Tinkuy restaurant in the 5-star Sanctuary Lodge hotel, the only hotel next to Machu Picchu. The tour then continues with a return bus ride to Aguas Calientes, followed by the train back to Ollantaytambo. From Ollantaytambo, a tourist bus transfers guests back to Cusco, ending with a drop-off at the hotel. The entire tour lasts about 16 hours and includes all transportation, entrance fees, and guide services.
