Overview

This full-day bus tour lasts about 10 to 12 hours, departing from Punta Cana to Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. The journey includes hotel pickup and drop-off, air-conditioned transport, bottled water, a professional guide, and a typical Dominican lunch. Due to Covid restrictions, most museums are closed and will be viewed only from the outside. The tour visits several key sites starting with Calle Las Damas, the first street of America. It continues with a 15-minute stop at Fortaleza Ozama, replacing the Alcazar de Colon which is closed for maintenance. The Palacio National is seen next, a site built on the former presidential mansion grounds from the 1916-1924 US occupation. The Theater of Fine Arts is also included as a drive-by stop. Afterward, the tour stops for 15 minutes at the Museo De Las Casas Reales, originally built in 1508, housing exhibits on the island’s history and weapons owned by dictator Rafael Leónidas Trujillo Molina. A 20-minute visit at the Basilica Cathedral of Santa Maria la Menor follows, where visitors can observe the vaulted ceiling designed to look like palm branches, various chapels, and stained glass windows. Women must cover shoulders and knees to enter the cathedral. The tour also includes a 20-minute walk through the Zona Colonial, the oldest continuously inhabited city in the Americas. The final stop is the Columbus Lighthouse (Faro A Colon), a 680-foot-long concrete monument in the shape of a cross that serves as a mausoleum and museum displaying artifacts such as a boat from Cuba and Colombian jewelry.
