Overview

The tour begins with a pickup in central Ulaanbaatar before heading to the Genghis Khan Statue Complex. Visitors spend about two hours at the site, viewing the 40-meter-tall steel equestrian statue of Genghis Khan on horseback, located on a hillside by the Tuul River at Tsonjin Boldog, 54 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar. At the base of the statue, the small historical museum provides insights into Mongolian history. Guests also have the chance to try on a traditional Mongolian Deel costume, ride a camel, and take photos holding a golden eagle. Next, the group travels to Terelj National Park for approximately 90 minutes. Here, visitors hike around Turtle Rock (Melkhii Khad), a 24-meter granite formation resembling a turtle, situated at the foothills of pine-covered mountains. This stop offers photo opportunities and a chance to rent horses or browse souvenirs in summer. A short walk from Turtle Rock leads towards Aryabal Meditation Temple. The tour includes a two-hour hike to Aryabal Meditation Temple, about 10 kilometers inside Gorkhi-Terelj National Park. The path crosses a small wooden bridge called "the bridge that leads beyond wisdom." The temple is dedicated to Kalachakra philosophy and houses a thangka depicting the myth of Shambhala, a Kalachakra mandala, and a gallery with 220 paintings by artist Bayantsagaan illustrating Buddhist philosophy. A traditional Mongolian lunch is served inside a Ger tent during the visit. The tour ends with a 20-minute return transfer to the center of Ulaanbaatar. Transportation, all fees and taxes, and an English-speaking guide are included in the full-day tour lasting about 7 to 8 hours.

In summer, horses can be rented and souvenirs bought nearby. The site is a good starting point for a walk of about one hour leading to the Aryaval meditation centre or deeper into the park.
