Overview

This walking tour in Galveston lasts about 90 minutes and focuses on the paranormal activity along The Strand, the city’s historic original street. The guide leads the group through stories linked to hurricanes, war, fires, epidemics, and the pirate Jean Lafitte, who once made the island a haven for thieves. Along the way, participants learn why Galveston is said to have more ghosts than any other city in the United States. The tour visits key sites where ghost sightings have been reported, including the Galveston Railroad Museum, where a tragic accident involving an engineer named William Watson still echoes. Participants then stop at a famous hotel known for ghostly sounds and apparitions of dignitaries, soldiers, and a child’s spirit. Finally, the group reaches the Grand 1894 Opera House, connected to the story of Charles F. Coghlan, an actor whose coffin was lost at sea during a great storm and later found near his intended resting place. Walking at night, the tour offers chances to see translucent figures, shadows, and unexplained movements near the windows and staircases of these historic buildings. A tour guide is included to share these detailed accounts and lead the route through The Strand’s haunted locations.
