The Art Museum is housed in Girona’s historic old Episcopal Palace, a remarkable building listed as a Historic-Artistic Site. It preserves important collections from the Bishopric of Girona, the Provincial Council, and the Generalitat de Catalunya’s art funds. The museum highlights Romanesque and Gothic art, featuring grand altarpieces like those from Púbol and Cruïlles, alongside Renaissance works attributed to Joan de Burguña and Pere Mates. It also showcases 19th- and 20th-century Catalan painting and sculpture, with pieces by artists such as Miquel Blay, Santiago Rusiñol, and Celso Lagar. The palace itself, first documented in the 10th century, retains original spaces like the clergymen’s prison and a majestic garden, which opens to the public on special occasions, offering a unique cultural and historical experience
