Overview

This full-day quad bike tour in Gozo lasts about six hours and includes riding across rugged inland and coastal terrain. Participants drive quad bikes in a convoy led by an experienced guide, visiting remote natural sites not accessible by public transport. The tour covers landmarks such as Dwejra Bay, Xwejni Salt Pans, Ramla Bay beach, Ghasri Valley, the Inland Sea lagoon, and Xlendi Bay with its cliffs and caves. Along the route, the group passes through Fontana, Victoria, and Qbajjar Bay Beach. A lunch break is taken in Xewkija. The tour provides helmets, hairnets, and insurance for all riders. Hotel pickup and drop-off or nearby collection are included. After the quad portion, the return to Malta is by private boat, passing the Blue Lagoon and Comino caves, weather permitting. The guide also offers local food tasting during the trip. Drivers must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid driver's license plus a government photo ID, and be fully qualified to operate the quad bike. Passengers can join only when accompanied by a qualified driver. Optional entrance fees to Inland Sea and Dwejra boat rides are not included. Personal expenses and gratuities are extra, as is any excess fee in case of vehicle damage.

Itinerary

1

Dwejra Bay

Dwejra Bay features dramatic coastal rock formations with sea water spilling over them. Visitors can swim in the deep sea bay, the calm shallow Inland Sea lagoon, or near the Blue Hole dive site. Fungus Rock, locally called “Il-Ġebla tal-Ġeneral,” is nearby. Historically, this rock was guarded because a medicinal plant grew there. The plant was harvested and transported using baskets and pulleys, with severe penalties for theft during the Knights of Malta era.

30 min

2

Xwejni Salt Pans

Located on Gozo’s north coast past Qbajjar Bay, the Xwejni Salt Pans are a 3-kilometer stretch of rock-cut salt flats about 350 years old. These salt pans are part of a long-standing local tradition of sea salt production maintained by certain families. During summer, locals collect salt crystals and store them in caves carved into the coastal rocks.

10 min

3

Ramla Bay

Ramla Bay is Gozo’s largest beach, known for its wide red sand often called “Ramla il-Ħamra.” It is suitable for swimming and snorkeling. The surrounding area is mostly undeveloped with some cafes and a stall set back from the beach. Protected sand dunes and fertile, terraced valley walls surround the bay. Roman ruins lie beneath the sand, and the bay is accessed from nearby hills or the village of in-Nadur.

30 min

4

Ghasri

Ghasri Valley, or Wied il-Ghasri, is a narrow creek about 300 meters long with a winding inlet. It is bordered by high, rugged cliffs and accessed via approximately 100 steps down to the cove.

5

Inland Sea

The Inland Sea lagoon, also called Qawra or Dwejra, is connected to the Mediterranean Sea by a narrow natural arch formed by a collapsed limestone cave roof along a geological fault.

30 min

6

Xlendi Beach, Cliff and Caves

Ix-Xlendi Bay has a small sandy beach with shallow waters and a rocky stretch for swimming and snorkeling. The reef formations make it a diving site suitable for beginners. The bay is a fishing village with restaurants, bars, and hotels.
