Overview

This full-day bus tour of Gozo lasts about eight to nine hours and begins with a 20-minute ferry ride to the island. The first stop is the Ġgantija Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980, where you spend 45 minutes exploring some of the world’s oldest free-standing stone monuments, built between 3600 and 2500 BC. Next, the tour continues to Victoria, the capital city of Gozo, where you have 25 minutes to observe daily life, especially around the main market square. The tour then spends about 50 minutes at The Citadel, a medieval fortress at the city’s center. This fortified structure dates back to the Bronze Age and served as a refuge in medieval times while also marking the historic core of Victoria. Afterward, the tour visits Xlendi Bay for 20 minutes. This coastal inlet sits at the end of a ravine surrounded by steep cliffs with a small promenade featuring cafes and shops. The final stop is at Dwejra Bay for 45 minutes, known for its geological formations and the Inland Sea, a small bay connected to the open sea by a 65-meter-long natural tunnel. Weather permitting, you may take an optional boat trip through this tunnel, which is not included in the tour price. A fixed-menu lunch with a glass of wine is served during one of the stops. The package includes all transportation on an air-conditioned coach, roundtrip ferry tickets to Gozo, admission to the Ġgantija Temples, a licensed guide, and pick-up and drop-off transfers from selected meeting points. Extra drinks during lunch (beyond the included wine), gratuities, and the optional boat trip at Dwejra Bay are not covered. The total tour time includes all transportation and ferry crossings.

Itinerary

1

Ggantija Archaeological Park

The tour begins with a 45-minute visit to the Ġgantija Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980. These megalithic temples date from approximately 3600 to 2500 BC and are among the oldest free-standing stone monuments in the world, older than Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids by about 1000 years. The temples were named after Maltese giants, as the massive limestone blocks used in their construction weigh over 50 tons and measure more than five meters long.

45 min

2

Victoria

After the temples, the tour proceeds to Victoria, the capital city of Gozo. Visitors spend 25 minutes observing the town's daily life, particularly around the bustling main market square where locals shop and socialize. Victoria combines a busy market environment with a relaxed atmosphere.

25 min

3

The Citadel

The tour continues for 50 minutes at The Citadel, a medieval fortress in the center of Victoria. This fortified complex has a distinctive skyline and military architecture. The site has been inhabited since the Bronze Age and was the acropolis of the Punic-Roman city of Gaulos. During medieval times, it served as a refuge and the historic heart of Gozo, with a suburb developing outside its walls from the 15th century onwards.

50 min

4

Xlendi Bay

Next is a 20-minute stop at Xlendi Bay, a sea inlet located at the end of a deep ravine that was once a riverbed. The bay is surrounded by steep cliffs and features a lively promenade with cafes, restaurants, and souvenir shops. Despite its activity, Xlendi Bay remains relatively quiet even during peak seasons.

20 min

5

Dwejra Bay

The final visit is 45 minutes at Dwejra Bay on Gozo’s western shore, an area known for its geological and ecological features. The highlight is the Inland Sea, a small bay enclosed by high cliffs and linked to the open sea by a natural tunnel 65 meters long. Weather permitting, guests may take an optional boat trip through the tunnel for a fee payable on location.

45 min

6

Island of Gozo

A fixed-menu lunch including a glass of wine is served during one of the stops on the island. This meal is included in the tour price.
