Overview

The Alhambra was originally a fortress built in 889 AD on Roman ruins, later expanded into a palace complex by Nasrid emir Mohammed ben Al-Ahmar in the mid-13th century. This walking tour lasts about three hours and fifteen minutes and includes access to the Alhambra’s main areas such as the Alcazaba fortress, the Medina, the Palace of Carlos V, and the Generalife Gardens. A professional guide speaks English and Spanish and explains the history and architecture throughout the visit. The tour allows one hour to explore the Alhambra complex itself, learning about its construction and significance. Afterward, the group spends about an hour visiting the Generalife, a 14th-century summer palace and villa used by Nasrid rulers. The Palace of Carlos V, a Renaissance building with a large interior courtyard, is included for around 15 minutes. The Gardens of the Adarves, located along the fortress walkway, offer views over the city and are also part of the route. Entrance to the Nasrid Palaces is not included unless the option for it is selected when booking. Food, drinks, and hotel transfers are not part of the price. Guests must provide full identification details before arrival to gain entry. This tour is not advised for travelers with mobility difficulties.
