Overview

This three-hour guided tour covers the entire South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, traveling along Desert View Drive in an open-air Jeep Wrangler. The tour begins and ends at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center IMAX theater, where a free ticket is included for the film "Grand Canyon: Rivers of Time." Guests may choose to watch the movie before or after the tour. The Jeep stops at three to four viewpoints, including Grandview Point and Pipe Creek Vista, where short walks are possible. At Grandview Point, visitors learn about the history of the Grandview Hotel and local plants and animals. Along Desert View Drive, stops may include Duck on a Rock, Moran Point, Lipan Point, Two Trees, No Name, and Pike Creek Vista. At each stop, the guide provides information about the canyon’s geology, erosion, flora, fauna, early inhabitants, Spanish explorers, the Powell expeditions, and artist Thomas Moran. At Desert View Watchtower, guests have free time for a short walk and can view murals depicting local Native American culture. The guide explains the work of architect Mary J. Coulter, who designed several park buildings including Hopi House, Hermit's Rest, Lookout Studio, and the Watchtower itself. From the Watchtower, visitors can look down thousands of feet to the Colorado River and, on clear days, see over 100 miles across the canyon. Park admission is included for the tour only; re-entry to the park requires a separate pass. The tour requires guests to have the ability to get in and out of the Jeep and to hold themselves up during the ride. Children under two years old are not permitted on this tour, and some viewpoints may be inaccessible to guests with limited mobility.
