Overview

This 90-minute walking tour offers a detailed look at Griffith Observatory led by guides who formerly worked there. The tour begins at the Astronomers Monument, a large outdoor concrete sculpture honoring six famous astronomers. Visitors then enter the observatory to see features such as the large Foucault Pendulum, a 50,000-volt Tesla Coil, and an interactive periodic table of elements. The guide shares insights on the observatory’s architecture, history, and connections to movies. The tour includes panoramic views of the Hollywood Sign and a photo opportunity with the Albert Einstein statue on site. The final part of the experience is a 40-minute show in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium, included in the ticket. This show is suitable for visitors aged 5 and older. The tour group is kept small to maintain an in-depth experience. Parking and gratuities are not included. Participants meet the guide at the Astronomers Monument on the observatory’s front lawn. The tour operator is independent and not affiliated with the City of Los Angeles or the observatory staff, so questions about the tour should be directed only to the guide.
