This walking tour covers three significant neighborhoods in New York City: the Lower East Side, Chinatown, and Little Italy. The tour lasts about three and a half hours and is led by a professional French-speaking guide who has lived in New York for several years. The route begins in the Lower East Side, a neighborhood known for its immigrant history, Mafia and prohibition era stories, and recent growth in street art and galleries. The guide explains the social and architectural aspects of the area while pointing out places of interest for art and food lovers. Next, the tour moves to Chinatown, where visitors see local shops such as fishmongers and small workshops. The guide also visits Columbus Park, the former Five Points site, where residents gather to play Chinese chess and practice tai chi. The final stop is Little Italy, which, despite being smaller than in the past, still serves as the heart of the Italian community. Mulberry Street, lined with Italian restaurants and delicatessens, is highlighted along with its annual San Gennaro festival. Snacks and gratuities are not included in the price.
Lower East Side
This district has been the setting for films like Gangs of New York and Once Upon a Time in America. The tour covers its immigrant roots, connections to the Mafia and prohibition era, and urban development challenges. Recent years have seen growth in street art and galleries, along with many restaurants and bars.
Chinatown
Chinatown offers a distinct environment with many shops including fishmongers and small workshops. The tour visits Columbus Park, once the site of Five Points, where locals meet to walk, play Chinese chess, or practice tai chi chuan.
Little Italy
Little Italy remains the historic Italian neighborhood despite its reduced size. Mulberry Street features numerous Italian restaurants and delicatessens and hosts the annual San Gennaro festival.
The meeting point will be confirmed to you a few days before the visit by New York in French.
